Hey PPC Pro, are you tired of clicking 140 categories to exclude Mobile App Placements? Here's the quicker way. If you are like me, you've probably been clicking like a rabbit on speed to get these Mobile Apps excluded from your PMax campaigns....you know, the Mobile App Categories you exclude at the account level to prevent PMax from showing your ads on kids games etc. Huge time sink and fuel for RSI complaints. Here's a quicker way: Simply copy this list with placement and add them under ‘Enter multiple placements’. Good points here. (A "gatekeeper" company is going to get a lot of unwanted attention if they make it really easy to turn off every competitor's cross-context user tracking while leaving their own cross-context user tracking turned on. Whatever form the cookie preference ends up taking, it's going to also have to control Google tracking that isn't technically cookie-based but would otherwise be unfairly/illegally advantaged)

Learn from my mistakes advent calendar... Day 5 / 12: Using ppc channels to try and push your ICP from solution unaware to handraise. Ads could never. Paid is a great amplifier but it won't build trust or create demand. And it can harm your brand if you are heavily present with paid ads but have never made an effort to participate in the channel organically. The times I felt I HAD to do this were times where we had a non-existent or very overwhelmed content person who was writing product content, web pages and blogs, and actual brand-building, engaging content just never made it to the top of the list. So everything I learned basically boils down to - rotate all your effort to quality content before worrying about paid distro. Lessons learned: 1️⃣ Good content is worth 10-20x any ad budget Put money into excellent contract writers before ads. Move money around from paid and hire a video editor. Make crappy whiteboard videos with low production value but explain concepts or your product really well. These will perform better - in terms of impressions, views, clicks - and do more for your brand - in terms of building trust - than any paid ad. Run webinars or livestreams and then cut up and repurpose that content in small chunks. This isn't new advice, but putting out a constant stream of 60 second clips will also do more to build trust than any ad could. 2️⃣ Commit to a cadence that's more frequent than you think Knowing you're going to get a newsletter every Tuesday morning starts to prime you to look out for it. Knowing you'll see a new video in an awesome series or be able to listen to a podcast you love every week or every day can become part of your routine. If you think you can only run one livestream a month, put out one quality piece of content every 2 weeks, etc., push yourself to double it. You can always increase the time between if you don't see traction after a couple of months. But if you release weekly for 2 months, that's 8 chances to grab and build momentum. If you release monthly for those same 2 months, that's way more time for people to forget about you in between and it's really hard to build a following that way. Pick a line of valuable, educational, BRANDY content and run at it hard. 3️⃣ Use paid as a distribution amplifier to create a surround sound effect in places your ICP trust already Good content ✅ Solid cadence ✅ Knowing where your buyers hang out and what sources they trust is next. If you have great content and a solid cadence but you are pushing to LinkedIn and you need to build trust with developers, that won't work. Be posting to Reddit. Stack Overflow. Then boost with paid $$ behind the things that are engaging your ICP organically. Your content doesn't need to go viral to be worth a boost either. If you see one piece that has 30-50% (relative) higher engagement than average, even if the average is low, boost it. Look for reasons it's resonating. Repeat. More to come!

User intent - AI masters it. It's about satisfying user's searches, not keyword stuffing. 2. Content - Tailor to specific needs with AI. It's a must for your strategy. 3. Voice search - AI is powering it. Include it, or you're not ready for the future. 4. Local SEO - It's about 'WHAT' and 'WHY', not just 'WHERE', thanks to AI. 5. Structured data - AI needs it to understand you 6. Predictive analytics - AI predicts future trends. Include it, or you'll always be catch up. 7. Site speed - AI loves quick sites. Don't be last in line! 8. Long-tail, conversational keywords - AI loves them. Make yours conversational, or you won't be found. Adaptation is survival. I'm very bothered by Google Ads' recent removal of the credit card billing option. If you're part of the #googleads, #ppc, or #paidsearch community, you probably have heard about this in the last week. I'm typically not one to comment publicly on changes to this platform that I've largely dedicated my career to, but I'm making an exception this time. What happened? As of July 31st, Google Ads (the largest ad platform in the world) is forcing advertisers to pay for ads via invoicing or direct debit, and will no longer allow credit cards. Why am I so bothered? Where do I start... 1. It hurts our bottom line. For decades the credit card payment option has benefited advertisers due to the 1-2% cash back on their corporate credit card. Google's removal of this option amounts to a 2% tax on businesses. It really hurts. 2. Google is not being honest. Google says this change will give advertisers more flexibility and control. It doesn't. If not dishonest, it's at least incredibly tone deaf. 3. Google has been conspicuously quiet on this change. Why? Probably because they know it helps their bottom line, and directly hurts the bottom line of the 7 MILLION hands (businesses) that "feed" them. Ginny Marvin (Google Ads PR liaison) has said on X that "We notified a small segment of advertisers that the billing options available for their Ads accounts are changing." I've been on the forums and chat rooms this last week and this is affecting a large segment of advertisers. Again, Google's response comes off as a disingenuous sugar coating. 4. Google doesn't need to do this. Take a look at their stock price the last few quarters... 5. Google is adding insult to injury. The last few years have been headlined by many changes that hurt advertisers... (let Google know in the comments which things have bugged you) On the Google Ads home page, Google bills its flagship product as one that assists businesses in accomplishing their goals. This about-face is evidence of Google preventing businesses from accomplishing their goals. Google has now become the monopolistic toll booth for businesses. "Hey Google." May I suggest that you take a few pages out of the Costco Wholesale playbook and add value for your customers at every opportunity? Thoughts? Hit me up in the comments.

Important reading for DMOs: If you are blocking crawlers to prevent AI companies from scraping your content, you also risk reducing your visibility in Google Search results. Proceed with caution! "Google uses a separate crawler for some AI products, such as its chatbot Gemini. But its main crawler, the Googlebot, serves both AI Overviews and Google search. A company spokesperson said Googlebot governs AI Overviews because AI and the company’s search engine are deeply entwined. The spokesperson added that its search results page shows information in a variety of formats, including images and graphics. Google also said publishers can block specific pages or parts of pages from appearing in AI Overviews in search results — but that would also likely bar those snippets from appearing across all of Google’s other search features, too, including web link listings." #destinationmarketing

Let me talk to ya for a sec.. This leak from Google could be a good/bad thing, in my opinion. For years, I've seen publications to marketers say, "SEO is dead," and people bash one another's claims. Despite what side of the fence you're on, look at this perspective. Whoever wants to assume "SEO is obsolete" and continue to listen to matrix propaganda, let it be. The changing face of link building, post Google Leak This article is worth the read (About 10-15 mins max. 7 min scan!). https://lnkd.in/e_jfTUY4   Would love to hear from other SEOs and Link Builders. Agree? Disagree? There's an obvious argument for focusing on building links only, or primarily, from relevant *existing* pages with authority and traffic. So, does that mean guest posting is dead? Intuitively, if we link from an entirely new page with no traffic of its own, no page authority of its own, why should we expect it to confer authority to our page?

Now, this is veeeery interesting. Google is basically a monolith that has by far the biggest share of market (to put it mildly). The actual "competitor" is Bing and we all now the space that occupies, all the rest are niches. SearchGPT (maybe just "Search" in future?) might be the first serious competitor to Google in ages. Honestly, this can be only good for the market and for us. Ok...maybe not for us SEOs working on another new platform 😅 #seo #google #openai #searchgpt #chatgpt

What an interesting way to get back into it after a long vacation 🏖 TL;DR: The ultimate call has been made and 3P cookie deprecation has been cancelled! ... Maybe? Over the past few years (it’s been that long), us Publifters would go back and forth over lunch or around the water cooler on “will Chrome really pull the pin on 3P cookies?” and with the help of hindsight, we know that the ad-revenue footgun is to be holstered, at least for now or if regulators permit this pivot. With Chrome not having an adopted alternate solution to cookies and a deadline looming, this piece of news hasn’t caught us off guard. End users of the internet want to feel like their phone isn’t listening to them. Governments are increasingly pursuing adequate legislation to ensure their citizens have control over their data and feel protected. I read this announcement as Chrome beginning to change their narrative to mirror those requirements, which is a good thing. And of course, it avoids major short-term product holes. So with that said, it seems that cookies and how they’re used today will continue to be molded into something more suitable to what end users want. Chrome is a big browser by market share, but Safari, Firefox and others still contribute a meaningful number of users across our customer base, without cookies by default. And that is just the web. Unsurprisingly, more and more people are consuming content in environments that don’t use cookies (e.g., CTV). Marketers want to be able to hit users with their messages in the right place at the right time, and 3P cookie coverage isn’t growing. With that, Publift won’t be halting our plans to provide our publisher with meaningful, revenue generating alternatives to cookies in the short term and beyond.
